Larry Bates started playing guitar at age 10 and took lessons from John Hogan and started playing steel guitar in the late 70's. Terry Miller got Larry going on steel by teaching him how to play "Danny Boy" and after that Larry went to several seminars put on my Jeff Newmman, Buddy Emmons and more.

Larry worked the Wheeling Jamboree and performed with the staff band and also backed up Nashville acts. He has played on many session during his career and has recorded with Mary Lorson, Mike Callahan, Dean Goble, Ray London, Linda Lee, Urban Horse Thieves, Fireball Express and of course Brad Miller. Larry has also worked on several road shows with Terry Miller backing up Hank Thompson and Tommy Cash.

Larry enjoys playing steel in most any genre of music and puts 110% in to every project he is part of.
